The Rustic Hydrangea - Continuing a Legacy

The story behind The Rustic Hydrangea is rooted in the desire to honor and carry forward the legacy of two remarkable women - my great grandmothers. Well into my teens and beyond, I had the privilege of witnessing their unwavering dedication to their craft at their trusty sewing machines. I would often accompany one of them to the local community center, where she painstakingly hand-quilted alongside a tight-knit guild. While I didn't have the opportunity to learn quilting directly from them, fate intervened in the form of the unforeseen Covid shutdown in 2020.

It was during this period of unexpected downtime at home that I delved headfirst into the captivating world of sewing and quilting. With each stitch, I discovered an unyielding passion for the trade, and thus, the profound motivation to carry on the torch of my great grandmothers' legacy was kindled. In homage to their memory and wisdom, the "The Rustic Hydrangea" was born.

The choice of the name itself holds deep significance. My great grandmothers oftentimes remarked, long before rustic aesthetics returned to vogue, that what is now considered rustic was simply the embodiment of the cherished bygone era - the good old days, where things were done with utmost care and precision. Additionally, they both cultivated stunning blue hydrangea bushes that adorned their respective homes. To this day, it is impossible for me to see a blue hydrangea without being instantaneously transported to cherished memories of these two remarkable ladies and the indelible impact they had on my life. It was only fitting, therefore, to pay homage to their profound influence by embracing their spirit in the name of my business.
